Michael Carr was born and bred in Warrenpoint and has always had a keen interest in local community affairs. He has spent most of his working life in engineering and IT and ran his own golf promotion company for a period. Michael has served 10 years as a local councillor representing the people of Warrenpoint, he served as Mayor of the district in 06/07. He takes a strong interest in the finances of council sitting on the finance and audit committees. Michael is also committed to community safety and was instrumental in delivering the CCTV scheme for Newry, Warrenpoint and Kilkeel. He was the inaugural chairman of the District Policing Partnership in N&M and currently is chair of the reformed PCSP (Policing and Community Safety Partnership) board,Michael is a board member of Warrenpoint Harbour Authority and has served on the board of NIFRS (NI Fire and Rescue Service) since 2010.,He is confident that essential tourism infrastructure such as a marina and development at the ‘Baths’, along with community facilities can be delivered in the town of Warrenpoint. On a broader stage Michael has introduced Sister Cities International to N&M and is Co-Chair of INFLA (Ireland Nuclear Free Local Authorities) arguing against nuclear and for renewable energy.

Cllr Mickey Ruane has lived all his life in Warrenpoint and currently resides in the Bridal Lonan area with his wife Tracey and son Jack.Mickey was first elected to Newry and Mourne Council in 2001, retaining his seat in 2005 and 2011 where he topped the poll with over 1600 votes. He is the current Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, where he has utilised his position to work tirelessly for the people of the district.Previously, Mickey held the position of Sinn Féin party Group leader on Newry & Mourne council and is the current Chairperson of the (STC) statutory transition committee which is tasked with merging both local councils. Mickey has held positions on a number of important council bodies including the District development, Finance, Environmental Control, Leisure services, Rural and Building Control Committees as well a council appointee on the southern peace III partnership.
