Michael Carr was born and bred in Warrenpoint and has always had a keen interest in local community affairs. He has spent most of his working life in engineering and IT and ran his own golf promotion company for a period. Michael has served 10 years as a local councillor representing the people of Warrenpoint, he served as Mayor of the district in 06/07. He takes a strong interest in the finances of council sitting on the finance and audit committees. Michael is also committed to community safety and was instrumental in delivering the CCTV scheme for Newry, Warrenpoint and Kilkeel. He was the inaugural chairman of the District Policing Partnership in N&M and currently is chair of the reformed PCSP (Policing and Community Safety Partnership) board,Michael is a board member of Warrenpoint Harbour Authority and has served on the board of NIFRS (NI Fire and Rescue Service) since 2010.,He is confident that essential tourism infrastructure such as a marina and development at the ‘Baths’, along with community facilities can be delivered in the town of Warrenpoint. On a broader stage Michael has introduced Sister Cities International to N&M and is Co-Chair of INFLA (Ireland Nuclear Free Local Authorities) arguing against nuclear and for renewable energy.

A draper who owned a shop in the interface area of the Duncairn Gardens in north Belfast, Carson was elected to Belfast City Council in 1973.[1] The following year he was elected as a member of the United Ulster Unionist Coalition as Member of Parliament for Belfast North from 1974.
